Your Branch Board

Welcome to the home page of Tayside JBB’s website.

In Tayside we represent approximately 1200 Police Officers from Constable to Chief Inspector and also represent Special Constables in the Force.

Scottish and UK police forces are going through unprecedently difficult times with challenges to structure, pay and pensions happening almost weekly.

The restructuring of Forces both at a national and local level is inevitable and something I broadly welcome. There is unnecessary duplication in the Forces, especially in HQ functions and in these awful economic times, something will have to give. I’d rather it were invisible force boundaries as opposed to visible effective police officers. I suspect however that the real challenge here will be making the transition to the new structures and Tayside Joint Branch Board will work constructively to facilitate that work and protect the interests of our members.

The last few weeks have seen more change and uncertainty around Police Officers pay and pensions. Scottish Police Federation negotiators have secured a relatively (compared to Winsor) good deal with the Scottish Government but it would be naive to think that some of Winsor’s recommendations won’t come north. We will watch with interest and fiercely fight any attack on our pay and conditions.

The Hutton report on pensions raises many questions and concerns for all public sector workers. For us, this will be taken forward now by the Home Secretary raising matters at the Police Negotiating Board. We are prepared for this fight and further updates will appear both on this site and on www.spf.org.uk.

Please use the feedback section of the site to provide me with your views on the website or any matter you consider relevant to policing in Tayside Region.
